Persepolis often raises the idea or theme that all people are conflicted within themselves. This first and most commonly done through Satrapi exploring who she is as a child. On page 6 Satrapi uses the first frame to visually show that she herself was conflicted by her religious views and modern ideas. She was raised religious, however she also has desires to be more modern in her decisions and this becomes problematic throughout the story. For Satrapi's parents, they are also conflicted because of their opinions of the revolution.
